Progress of implemented strategies

Question:

For this task, you are required to follow up and review Donny's participation post-commencement. You will seek to review the progress of implemented strategies and identify any further barriers and gaps in support to discuss these with your supervisor.

This will be completed as a role play and you will require a volunteer to play the role of Donny and to submit a video recording.

To complete the role play, follow the 3 steps below:

1. Prepare for role play:

Read the below scenario.

Scenario

Donny (continued)

Donny has been attending the organisation for work as arranged, going there three half days a week for the last fortnight. He advised you, 'It's been wonderful getting out of the house and into the community and meeting new people'. Donny mentioned to you that there are a couple of things to go over and discuss when you have time. To this, you have arranged a meeting with Donny and your supervisor, Joyce Kiehne. This time will be used as your first review meeting, so you will be looking to see what else can be implemented or adjusted to support Donny.

2. Set up for the role play:

Get dressed as if you are going to work, ensuring your appearance is in line with Banksia Care's Code of Conduct Policy and Procedure.

Ask a volunteer to play the role of Donny (this could include fellow students, colleagues, family or friends).

Brief them on the scenario and relevant information from individualised care plan. Provide them with a copy of the Participant Instruction Sheet Download Participant Instruction Sheetto help them effectively play their role and character.

Set up a quiet area for the simulated meeting with Donny. For example, a dining room with a table and 2 chairs.

3. Complete the role play

Follow Banksia Care policies and procedures to do with choice and independence.

Consult with Donny to monitor the success of implemented strategies and address any identified barriers and gaps in assistive technology.

You must discuss how things are going and progressing as he is now regularly engaging in the chosen community or volunteer work environment.

Record your role play and submit the video for your teacher to mark. Keep the role play (and recording) under 8 minutes.

During the role play, your teacher will be looking to see that you can:

  • Talk to your client in a supportive, encouraging and informative way to ask questions to learn about their interests, social needs, abilities and preferences.
  • Work with the client to select the best options to meet their needs
  • Discuss ideas and provide information on services, programs and appropriate options available in the community
  • Discuss potential barriers to community participation and social inclusion
  • Discuss and consider assistive technology requirements
  • During the discussion, talk about any cultural or religious needs that may impact the client's ability to access services and/or activities
  • Acknowledge and consider feedback from the client during the discussion
  • Explain to the client how they will review and monitor the effectiveness of the strategy
  • Confirm the next steps clearly with the client, including how you will advocate for them.
