Problem related to values and leadership

Assignment task:

Discussion response needed.

According to the article Values and Leadership, "Values are deeply held views that act as guiding principles for individuals and organizations" (Pendleton, 2002). Most people, if not all, are guided by their values when making crucial and difficult decisions. Our past experiences and how we reacted to them many times embraced our values. Personally, I feel that many individual values have motivate me to initiate a career in healthcare. However, I think the two that stand out are the values of services and integrity. According to Oxford dictionary, services is define as "the action of helping or doing work for someone; an act of assistance" (Oxford University Press, n.d.). Yet, services as a value goes beyond just helping someone; it demonstrates care and commitment to others. Through the value of services, a person is willing to go an extra mile and works to achieve the best outcomes. I identified with this value since I was small as a central part of who I was and wanted to be in life. I remember many occasions being part of events serving the community through our church and later become learning experiences though my middle and high school years. Once I reached college, I know I wanted to pursue a career that made a positive impact on the community. The other personal value that has drove my desire into the healthcare field is integrity. Integrity is define as "the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness" (Oxford University Press, n.d.). As this definition is self-explanatory, as a value integrity includes being ethical, reliable, trustworthy, and open to other's perspectives. Through my experiences, the value of integrity has influence my decision-making in many situation encountered in the workplace and in my personal life. As I've grown in many areas through learning experiences in the workplace, my interest has shift to work in the administrative area. I started as a health educator in my department and through experiences and taking over extra duties due to low staff; I was able to grow professionally. I was promoted to a manager's position for a cancer prevention program, which has provided me the opportunity to oversee the program and its staff. One important step in my professional career has been to continue my studies through this Master's degree program. I intend to graduate and pursuit a job in the administrative field that will continue to provide me with learning opportunities to enhance my knowledge.
