Assignment Task: John Grisham Sycamore Row

Group Chats and Provocative Questions

A group chat is a great way for each of you to further delve into the novel and share ideas with classmates. To nurture the discussion, first post your provocative questions on the Discussion Board and later they will be used in your group's chat.

Posting Provocative Questions

Finish reading the novel and post two questions to the discussion board that your group will use in its chat about the novel. Do this before midnight on the due date, or previous to your group chat, whichever is first.

Be sure they are questions that will initiate and promote a lively discussion. If you are looking for ideas, just google your novel's title and author.  You'll be directed to many sites that have interesting perspectives on this novel. They may spur some ideas for you.  DO NOT copy and paste questions--make them your own.

Online Chat

At a time your chat group determines, go to the Chat Room, which you will find under Communication in the top menu bar of the course website.  Your discussion director will decide when to introduce another question--to judge when the group is beginning to spin its wheels. This  person also needs to be on the lookout for students who want to socialize rather than discuss the novel.  And a really good discussion leader will bring students into the chat who are hanging back. The designated (by your group) leader will earn an extra five points
