Assignment Problem: Create a response to the following please.
Development:
Freud would likely contribute the cause of Mr. Freung's behavior to sexual desire. Freud believed that boys were sexually attracted to their mothers. Thus, her passing would likely be considered the triggering factor which caused the anxiety and the infidelity exhibited by Mr. Freung. To be more specific, Freud would likely claim that the reason for his infidelity is his id. This is because the id seeks immediate "satisfaction of bodily needs" (Schultz & Schultz, 2013, p. 45). This would explain his desire to seek attention and sex from other women as he is not receiving these from his wife.
Maintenance:
Several factors are maintaining his behavior. First, his sexual acts with others are being maintained. He is receiving attention and sexual satisfaction from his infidelities. Because of this, he would be likely to continue these acts as he receives satisfaction from them. Specifically, Freud would likely emphasize sexual satisfaction as the primary force maintaining his sexual acts with others.
Second, his anxiety is being maintained. Freud would likely state that his anxiety is both neurotic and moral. His neurotic anxiety would likely stem from his fear of punishment (divorce) as a result of his infidelity. His moral anxiety would stem from knowing that divorce (and possibly infidelity) goes against his religious and moral code. Thus, Mr. Freung would continue to experience anxiety as he continues to engage in sexual acts with people other than his wife.
