Classmate's Post:

The Election Integrity Act of 2021 was passed, requiring absentee Georgia voters to attain a free, valid ID card. Democrats argued that this law was comparable to laws passed in the Jim Crow era. North Carolina's first black lieutenant governor, Mark Robinson, was offended by their disputes. He felt it was insulting to think that getting a free, valid ID card was out of the scope of abilities of a black individual. Robinson says, "Am I to believe that black Americans, who have overcome the atrocities of slavery, who were victorious in the civil rights movement and now sit in the highest levels of this government, cannot figure out how to get a free ID to secure their votes?" Robinson concluded that the topic of racism amongst democrats has become exploited for personal gain. In other words, Democrats are utilizing racism as an incentive to fight against consecutive powers rather than their claimed fight for unity amongst all people. Robinson's testimony further approved my already existent belief about democratic views concerning racism. Not only have their claims been inaccurate as seen in the situation above, but their fight against racism has been seen to have a contradicting and simultaneously opposing effect. What used to be oppression is being turned into unnecessary privilege and praise. It has become a universal objective to include more diversity into workplaces and schools. That said, it is being forced in a way where certain races of people are given special treatment for the purpose of meeting quotas. This fight against racism has created more division between people. If we truly want to abolish racism, we need to step away from our focus on race and tap into one's personal abilities.
