Background Information: You have been assigned to complete the lab activity on Operationalizing Constructs in Measurable Variables. This activity introduces you to variables, scores/scales, and measures. Variables refer to any characteristic that varies in values. For example, height and weight values are collected to measure body mass index and patient health questionnaire (PHQ) screeners are developed and implemented as a measuring tool. To give concrete example, let's say you are interested in using a depression scale to measure mental health outcomes related to depression. The PHQ-9 is the nine-item validated depression scale that can function as a screening measure, a diagnostic tool, and as a tracking measure to assess depression in individuals before, during and after treatment. Based on your topic for your class project (i.e., your needs assessment case study), identify a validated scale to construct a short survey using Qualtrics as part of your hands-on lab exercise 2. Find a Journal Article with a Validated Scale:
Conduct your own literature search and find a journal article that has used a validated scale you've selected to develop a survey. Reference this article to your measures document. Take a look at the attached sample to see how I've referenced the article.
Complete Lab Exercise #1: Measures Document
Please refer to attached sample of the measures document for this activity. In the sample, I have put together demographic questions, a patient satisfaction scale, and referenced the article. Your measures document should include at least 8 demographic questions, a validated scale with scoring instructions, and a reference (i.e., citation of a journal article that has used the validated scale of your interest) to earn maximum points.
