Problem regarding solid commitment to support social justice

Assignment task: As an early childhood education leader, you must have a solid commitment to supporting social justice, leading with high-quality effective leadership skills and innovative 21st-century learning practices. To prepare for this journal:

1. Select a scenario from the following three.

Consider using the recommended interactivity to outline or draft your response. In your journal,

  • Identify and summarize your selected scenario.
  • Describe the leadership decision you would make.

Be sure to share ideas on how you might support families through the challenges and opportunities that you perceive as a leader in your selected scenario

2. Support your decision with NAEYC Practices discussed in the text as well as themes you have seen throughout the MAECEL program and your weekly discussions and assignments.

Scenario 1:

During a community event at a local park, a government stakeholder approaches you and applauds the development and growth of your high-quality early childhood program. She asks if you can lower tuition for all children from a certain area of town and raise tuition for those in a higher economic demographic area so all children can attend your program. She then also asks you to consider hiring local community members even if they are not credentialed because it helps the local economy for an area of town that needs restoration.

Scenario 2:

A family from your program requests a meeting with you and their son's preschool teacher. During this meeting, the family expresses great concern with their child's classroom setup. The parents report that on several occasions at pickup time, they observed their son dressed in girls' clothing using the dramatic play kitchen area. The family states they do not want their son dressed up in a "girl's apron" and do not want him in roles that women should be doing. They suggest the teacher not allow boys to play dress up in the dramatic play areas and state the teacher should discuss this with the entire class.

Scenario 3:

You conducted a training session for all your early childhood education staff members on how to use developmentally appropriate technology in the early childhood education environment. You overhear a veteran preschool teacher saying the training was a waste of time because the children in your program do not have the financial resources to have access to technology. Therefore, using it in school is pointless. The teacher also states the children need to just go back to playing outside as they did before.
