I need help in responding to this topic in two paragraphs
The topic that interested me the most was about the work schedules. I thought it was so interesting because the way that the textbook explains is that work has to be 40 hours and makes it clear that this is unsustainable for the workers. They admit that workers do not get enough free time to do other types of businesses, but instead of opting for a solution that compromises the 40 hours, they latch onto giving these workers the 40 hours no matter what. Many workers have no time for anything else other than work, even with other personal duties. This model of work originated by Ford in the 1900s, but that was during a time where working 40 hours a week was able to afford commodities that many of us are denied today. Despite being an improvement to the work model during that time, it still was unsustainable for workers back then as it was built to keep workers reliant on overworking.
I find the concept of job sharing something more sustainable for workers, but I do not trust that these employers would give proper compensation to either of their workers. For example, I know many people who are also forced to work overtime so that they gain more money to support the increasing cost of living. Many of these workplaces would do so many things to keep their profits higher, so that they would not compensate workers properly. A worker could work over 40 hours a week, like my friend, yet she still was refused full-time benefits. Through job sharing, I doubt any companies would ever want to give employees proper benefits. Another thing with job sharing that frustrated me was how they treated job sharing a new thing, while almost exactly describing it as shifts. These companies also would never want to hire more people to make up for others' work.
