Reply The City of Mong's attempting to adopt a ordinance that requires individuals to travel a greater distance to the polls is in violation of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Fourteenth Amendment. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 outlaws any discriminatory voting practice. Sec 4 (a) of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 states that voting rights should not be denied based on race or color, nor denied based on any test provided by state or federal. The City of Mong having low income or those under the poverty line travel a great distance to vote at polls is considered discriminatory. The City is limiting these individual's right to vote, the city is reducing its expenses, yet it is affecting individual's right to vote. The Supreme Court would disapprove due to the ordinance being discriminatory against those who meet the poverty line and this being a violation of the Fourteen Amendment which states "no state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of a citizen of the United States."
