Problem: A 75-year-old woman is brought in by her husband to the physician's office today for concerns about her memory loss. The husband mentions to the physician that the client was found at the store, not knowing how she got there. The burners are not turned off when the client attempts to cook. She is not able to keep up a conversation with family or strangers. The physician arranges for cognitive testing and shares the results of a mild cognitive impairment with the client and her husband. The physician prescribes an antidepressant for the client. Three months later, the client and husband return, she is able to converse better, yet she is leaving car keys in the refrigerator and continues to cook but forgets to turn off the stove. The physician determines the client's dementia is progressing. (Learning Objectives 1, 2, 5)
