Case Study
Sofia and Matthew met in law school, and because of their demanding careers they put off having children. They are both 34 years old. After trying to get pregnant for a year, they scheduled an appointment with a fertility specialist. Before doing a physical exam with each of them, their fertility doctor, Dr. Baker, asks Sofia and Matthew to tell her a bit about their lifestyles. Sofia tells Dr. Baker that over the last year, she has been eating a healthy diet and exercising at least four days per week. Sofia is taking a prenatal vitamin and has cut out alcohol, as they are eager to get pregnant. She does, however, continue to drink 4-5 cups of coffee each day, as she often works late into the night as a corporate lawyer. Matthew tells Dr. Baker that he has not really changed anything over the last year, as he has always thought that any issues getting pregnant would be due to Sofia and her reproductive health. Matthew also tells Dr. Baker that he has been really stressed at work recently, so he drinks 3-4 alcoholic beverages most nights of the week and does not eat
