Problem discussion will focus on leadership themes

Assignment task:

This week's discussion will focus on leadership themes embedded in Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech and his Letter from a Birmingham Jail. Fully and meaningfully address the prompts below in your main response.

First, review the resources provided on Authentic Servant Leadership in the course, the syllabus page on Authentic Servant Leadership and read the transcript of King's I Have a Dream (link found below), his Letter from a Birmingham Jail (excerpt found in CH 29), and Perry's article. Examine the character of Dr. King in terms of leadership. Dr. King certainly did not choose the easy road when he assumed a leadership role in the Civil Rights Movement and chose to espouse nonviolent civil disobedience as a way of registering African American resistance against unfair, discriminatory, and racist laws and behaviors (Perry, 2010). Specifically, what is at least one word or phrase you might use to describe any positive servant leadership qualities he may possess (examples may include empathy; ethics before profit, inspiring vision; flexibility; humility; foresight; empowering others; etc.)? Use textual evidence to support your answer.  Remember to make sure your examples are in historical context by highlighting the qualities and then providing an historical example of how and then MLK exemplified those qualities.

Task 1: Create a new discussion topic on or before the required date/time. Develop a substantive main thread addressing each part of the prompt in full. Your initial thread should be 2-3 paragraphs in length (200+ words total). Support your points with examples or illustrations from the text. Remember to include a lot of details and information from the sources in your initial post, as these are formal and should be treated as such, and remember to cite your paraphrased and quoted information with APA in-text citations. You are not required to directly quote, but all information should be paraphrased and cited.
