Assignment task: Imagine you are working in a childcare
Scenario:
During one of the activities, Samantha approaches Sebastian and you with tears in her eyes. She gestures with her hands rapidly, neither you nor Sebastian can decipher. Samantha, unknown to you and your partner educator, has misplaced her hearing aid (which when found is broken) and has trouble communicating orally without it. She can still use Auslan but cannot speak properly without being able to hear herself. Samantha's parents were very specific about treating Samantha as normally as possible. Bringing up her deteriorating hearing upsets her a lot and her parents worry about her mental health being affected.
To complete this task, you must:
- Have three volunteers to act as Samantha, a supervisor, and an educator fluent in Auslan.
- Discuss and review the scenario above with your volunteers.
- Address the concerns of Samantha misplacing her hearing aid and needs it to communicate properly. Want Professional Help?
- Address the concerns of Samantha's hearing aid (once found) being broken
- Report the incident to your supervisor and your supervisor will contact the parents to let them know about the issues.
- At the start of your roleplay with Samantha, the supervisor, and the Auslan interpreter please state the date and time for a video play.
