Problem: Many people talk a lot about the events of September 11th on the anniversary of it's occurrence, but few talk about it between September 12th and the next anniversary an entire year later. The relevance of this event sent shockwaves through the policing world and many of the effects are still influencing decisions today. The book talks about the term "Predictive Policing". Define this term. Then, talk about how predictive policing could have been used to either prevent or uncover the 9/11 plots before they happened. Do you think the use of technology may impact the effectiveness of predictive policing and do you think it is the future of policing to prevent future attacks such as 9/11? What are some technologies that are being created in the private world that may have use in law enforcement to detect, deter, and uncover crime and crime patterns before it even happens? (Example: facial recognition in stores that detects banned individuals and databases photos of organized shoplifters).
