Her professional background is that she graduated with her BSN and then went on to work as an RN in a medical-surgical unit and then ICU. I asked her if she could describe a time where she faced moral distress in her career. She went on to tell me how her first ever experience that she could remember was during COVID. She said that working as a nurse during this time was really hard on her mentally and nothing could have prepared her for the obstacles she would face during this time. She said that during COVID, patients families were not allowed to visit which made many patients have to die alone in the hospital. She remembered a specific patient who was dying and she was distraught because she just stayed on the phone with the family while the patient took their last breaths.
