Assignment task:
Directions: After reading The Legislative Process (Link on syllabus) and viewing the lecture, respond to the following multi-part prompt; all questions must be answered for full credit. Grading Criteria: Be roughly two paragraphs in length Cite the text and/or lectures, or outside information Answer the question fully, there are multiple elements to the prompt Be aware that the questions are open-ended, meaning there is no definite "right" or "wrong" answer. I am looking for you to use course material to support an argument. Discussion Topic: Congress, and more specifically the Senate, has been called the "greatest deliberative body in the world," however many of the bills it has passed into law have been deeply unpopular. On the other hand, Americans routinely demand Congress to pass laws that have broad-based support (70% of the nation approves or agrees with the idea), yet the legislature fails to do so, again and again. What do you think explains why popular laws are not passed and many unpopular laws are? What might be a solution to this problem (Assuming there is one! Maybe you disagree.)? You are not required to comment on your peers work, however extra effort will be reflected in your score.
