Rocco Ricardi is a 79 year old man who was independently living at home until he was hospitalized after suffering a stroke a month ago. His family is supportive and wants to take Rocco into their home and care for him rather than leaving him in a long term care or retirement facility as he is unable to return to his home. The stroke has left Rocco with L sided paralysis and impaired speech. He is unable to walk and relies on others to help him into a wheelchair and to move him around. Rocco's family is very dedicated but has had little exposure to caring for dependant individuals. They need lots of information on how to position, transfer, reduce the risk of 'bedsores', communicate with someone who has impaired speech etc. in order to ensure Rocco is well taken care of at their home. Along with caring for Rocco they may also experience some pressures and stress and may need some strategies to care for themselves.
