Assignment Task: A 2,000 word essay involving the application of theories and concepts to one's own experiences of "community" or community engagement. Community can be defined by the student and need not be geographic.
It could be based on age, interests, ethnic group, social status, volunteering etc. The assignment should be written as a conventional academic essay (involving citation and references etc.). It should include both an account of your individual example as well as a discussion of key literature and sociological ideas relevant to this.
Students will be invited to email their plan to the tutor. Precise definitions of community and choices regarding literature should be made in consultation with the tutor.
