Problem:
My boyfriend is also a 1st generation immigrant from Russia. He immigrated to the U.S. with his mother to re-unite with his non-citizen father at the age of nine. They mistakenly overstayed their visa. He became exactly what the ProCon dot org (2022) article refers to as a "Dreamer" where his opportunities as an adult were affected by something he had no control of as a child. After nearly a decade of trials, hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees and a "voluntary departure" sentencing back to Russia, he was finally able to become naturalized after Seventeen years of setting foot on American soil. His mother, who's case seemed almost hopeless eventually managed to get naturalization through the Obama administration and the laws they set. It took her Twenty-two years.
