You are required to develop a 2500 word electronic industry newsletter that investigates and reports on a range of current and future sustainable developments in the hospitality industry and the operational challenges associated with the implementation of sustainability. A wide range of published sources must be evident-academic sources and company reports. Sources must be referenced in accordance with Harvard MMU referencing standards.

The Sustainable Restaurant Association is a not-for-profit membership organisation that helps food operations become more sustainable. They help food businesses source food more sustainably, manage resources more efficiently and work more closely with the community. The SRA operate on 14 key focus areas that come under the heading of – Society, Environment and Sourcing
Assessment Task:
In this element of assessment, you will investigate and report on a range of current and future sustainable developments in hospitality and provide a critical analysis of the operational challenges associated with the implementation of sustainability. The electronic newsletter will be a minimum of 2,500 words, supported by academic references and can contain imagery. The newsletter will be submitted electronically on Moodle.
The SRA operate on 14 key focus areas that come under the headings of – Society, Environment and Sourcing.
You will select to base your newsletter on one of these areas – Society, Environment or Sourcing.
1. Your newsletter will give an overview of academic research into the area of choice to highlight the current issues.
2. You will conduct both primary and secondary research to highlight innovative solutions that address the issues described above in point 1.
3. You will be expected to recognise potential operational challenges in implementing the above sustainability practices and suggest measures to overcome such barriers
4. You will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of the work of the SRA through the newsletter and the benefits of operating within their sustainability framework
The most insightful newsletters will be shared with the SRA and industry partners to promote innovation in sustainability in the food service sector in the Manchester area.
