A) Right ventricular pressure may be determined by measuring the peak velocity of a regurgitant jet through an incompetent tricuspid valve and applying the following formula:
RV systolic Pressure = 4V2 + 10 rnmHg
Note: 10 mmHg is an assumed value for mean right atrial pressure. An alternate approach to the quantitation of right atrial pressure is assessment of the jugular venous pulse.
