Case Scenario:
OOHC
You work for an OOHC support agency. Out-of-home care (OoHC) is a temporary, medium or long-term living arrangement for children and young people who cannot live in their family home, aka foster care. Your job is to supervise foster children who are placed with your foster carers. You have been given the task to create a service care plan for the following child.
Grace is a 10 yr old girl who has recently been removed from her mother's care and placed with short term foster carers. Grace and her mother are from West Africa, they moved to Australia 2 yrs. ago. In this foster placement, she will be attending a new school in a new area.
The foster carers are John and Tracy, they are both 65 years of age, Anglo Australian, both retired, and have been foster carers for the last 10 years to over 30 children.
Knowing that this is the first time that they have cared for a child who is not Anglo Australian, you ask them if they need any specific supports and they respond, "oh its fine, children are all the same, don't you know that we have been doing this for a long time."
