Please write a history of human interactions (history) the commodities that you think best define the patterns that have shaped world history since circa 1500 through the present day. You must use and compare three different commodities that we have read about and discussed in class (salt, silk, cotton, porcelains, spice, sugar, coffee, steam and steel, peanuts, rubber, oil). To help you begin to organize your response, review the reading material and review the terms listed at the end of each chapter in the Strayer text (found in the “Second Thoughts” section under “What's the Significance?”).Then decide what themes you think are most important in the developments in world history since 1500 and think about which commodities best explain these themes. (Another hit: think about what“globalization “ means to you). You must cover the historical range of this course in your essay (you may begin in late/antiquity/early modern period, but your essay must end in the last part of the 20th century).
