Provide Bed Rest
Since these children require complete or partial bed rest, you must help the child not to be apprehensive and should help him to get involved in planning of daily activity schedule. Their activity should be minimised and disturbed as little as possible. Minimum handling should be done during diagnostic procedures.
Administer Antibiotics
When the endocarditis is diagnosed, the antibiotics are administered without any delay. The drugs usually used are, pencillin, ampicillin, streptomycine cloxaoxacillin and gentamicin. Amphotericin is used for fungal infection. Repeated blood cultures are taken to evaluate the patient's response to treatment. You have to prepqe the child for repeated venipunctures and for intravenous infusions. Observe the child for reaction of antibiotics and indication of congestive heart failure.
