1) After reading "Thanksgiving" by Ellen Goodman shows the American Tradition of Thanksgiving.
Pick a celebration from another culture that is comparable to Thanksgiving in its emphasis on family and togetherness, and contrast or compare the two holidays. How are they similar, and/or how do they diverge?
2) In heressay, Goodman states that we are both "a part of and apart from" our families, that we are, inessence, "between worlds." Choose a definite group in Americansociety, one based on age, ethnicity, or any other single defining characteristic and describe how members of that group are also "a part of and apart from" our culture, or "between worlds"; that is, in what ways are they part of the dominant culture, and in what ways are they distinct from it?
