Physical Properties of benzene
(a) First property of Benzene is that it is a colourless, mobile and volatile liquid. Its boiling point is 80°C and freezing point is 5.5°C. It comprises characteristic odour.
(b) Benzene is extremely inflammable and burns along with grimy flame.
(c) Benzene is lighter as compared water. It is specific gravity at 20°C is 0.8788.
(d) Benzene is miscible along with organic solvents like alcohol and ether but immiscible with water.
(e) Benzene is a good solvent. Resins, rubber, Fats, etc. dissolve in it.
(f) Benzene is a non-polar element and its dipole moment is zero.
(g) Benzene is a very poisonous substance. Inhalation of vapours or absorption via skin has a toxic effect.
