1. Structural organisation of the leaf is suitable to perform the process of photosynthesis. Hence leaf is called as a food factory.
2. The leaf has a large surface to receive more light.
3. It has extensive system of air spaces to facilitate diffusion of gases like carbondioxide and oxygen.
4. More photosynthetic activity takes place in the upper side of the leaf because palisade parenchyma consists of more number of chloroplasts.
5. The lower side of the leaf has less number of chloroplasts and has large intercellular spaces known as spongy parenchyma. The inter cellular spaces are useful in exchange of gases.
6. Vascular Bundles in the midrib and veins of leaf have phloem located towards the lower side is useful for transporting sugar and xylem located towards the upperside is useful for transporting water and minerals.
7. A leaf with strong petiole, lamina, leaf base and prominent midrib is good for photosynthesis.
