Post 1:The main competitor to Saint Francis Emergency Room is Memorial North Emergency Room which is located about 8 miles away from Saint Francis. One of the biggest differences that they both compete with is the wait time in the Emergency Rooms. Saint Francis Emergency Room wait time before being seen is typically around four hours. Memorial North Emergency Room tends to be around thirty minutes to an hour wait time. Memorial North Emergency Room has a different system they use to ensure that patients are not waiting in the Emergency Room for hours on end. However, there are always other patients that may come in after you that need to be seen right away and may add to your wait time. Their system is set up when you walk in the door you fill out the paperwork wait a few a minutes and then they take you back to a room.
At Saint Francis Emergency Room you fill out the paperwork then you wait, once you are called then they take your vitals and send you to another wait room before you can get into a room to be seen. Another big service that Memorial North Hospital offers that Saint Francis does not offer are certain surgeries based on religious beliefs. For example, Saint Francis Hospital will not perform Tubal Ligation because it is a catholic hospital and it is against their belief. As a result of this Memorial North will pick up any surgeries that are not performed by Saint Francis because they do perform these types of surgeries. One major area that Saint Francis Hospital has the upper end on North Memorial Hospital is that it is getting ready to expand the maternity ward quite a bit. They have more birthing rooms than their competitors and will soon have much more to offer to mothers.
"Along with this Saint Francis Hospital have been named one of Americas 50 best hospitals for 9 years in a row". According to Thomas and Calhoun "today's healthcare environment demands that every organization establish a position in the market and develop a strategy for aggressively protecting and enhancing that position" (p.82). Another major area that Saint Francis Hospital has an advantage on is their location. They are located off of a main road which connects to several other main roads so it is an easy access. Saint Francis Hospital is actively looking for ways to improve their facility and to be one step ahead of Memorial North in order to achieve their goals.

Post 2:Hello everyone,
After doing some countless research, I personally can't conjure up any real competition because this giving Veterans a better way of accessing health care instead of driving to the closest city, which really depends on their location in the rural area. Our Veterans will be able to receive the services that they do when it comes to primary care. This clinic should have the ability to have x-rays and labs available instead of sending them to the hospital for those. The VA has had a rocky reputation because of the lack of response to services in mental health, and I believe that is a problem. I feel that with rural communities, mental health needs to be available to people because of the overwhelming responses at the hospitals. This is something I feel is most important for the folks that live in this area and make sure they can get more rapid responses for any services they request.
