The Voices of Gothic Poetry
For this paper, you will have an opportunity to think hard about poetry as a literary form, and the specific ways that language is used within poems to create a Gothic voice. Your paper should be 3-4 pages in length, and you may choose between three different approaches to this assignment:
(1) Perform a traditional close reading of "voice" within a single poem. You may choose from the following poems:
a. Porphyria's Lover
b. My Last Duchess
Both Poems will be uploaded in the same pdf file
Checklist:
1) Quality of Ideas and Originality. Have you generated fresh insights, ideas, and perspectives? Have you illuminated the text in new and interesting ways? Or, if you choose the creative option, have you captured a convincing Gothic voice in your poem?
2) Persuasiveness. Have you supported your argument with evidence from the text? Does each paragraph help to support your overarching thesis?
3) Clarity. Is the paper easy to follow? Does each sentence clearly contribute to the argument?
4) Presentation. Is your essay free of spelling errors, grammatical mistakes, or awkward/confusing sentences? Have you followed MLA citation style?
