Question: Paul and Wendy Carter rented a room at a Travelodge. While in the room, they heard bumping and scratching sounds that seemed to come from behind a wall covered by a mirror. Later, Paul noticed two scratches in the mirror at eye level. He took off the mirror and found scratches on the back of the mirror through which a person could easily see and a large hole in the wall behind where the scratches would be.
There was a 11 ⁄2-foot hollow space between the wall and the wall of the adjoining room. There was also a hole in the adjoining room wall covered by a mirror with scratches. If the mirror in that room was removed, one could see into the Carters' room. The Carters sued the hotel. Was the hotel negligent?
