Case Scenario: An 18-year-old male with a history of tonic-clonic seizures was brought to the emergency department by his mother because he has been vomiting and unable to keep any fluids down for almost 24 hours. She states that he has not had his anti-seizure medications since yesterday morning and this morning he had a "very bad" seizure. An intravenous line is inserted, and during the assessment, the patient begins to have a tonic-clonic seizure that continues for almost 6 minutes.
