Paragraph summarizing the key points

Annotated Bibliography

An annotated bibliography is a list of sources related to your topic with a short annotation (paragraph) analyzing the strengths and weaknesses or relevance of each source. Creating an annotated bibliography helps you gather and evaluate research while preparing for a draft. An annotated bibliography can also help you formulate a thesis and review the literature on a particular subject.

Step 1: Read

Read How to Write an Annotated Bibliography from the KU Writing Center for information on annotated bibliographies and an example.

Step 2: Locate Two Reliable Sources

For this Assignment you are to locate and review two reliable sources on the topic you have selected for your Unit 9 Final Project. One source should be from the KU Online Library and the second source should be a web source. You may use the reliable source you used for the Unit 4 Discussion Board for this project.

Step 3: Create a Reference Page

Include a Reference page citation for each source (to the best of your ability) followed by a paragraph summarizing the key points of the source and reflecting on the usefulness of the source (for example, how does it fit with your ideas? What type of information does it provide? Statistics? Background information? Etc.).

Typically, an annotated bibliography will contain the complete APA citation for a source. However, APA style citations will not be evaluated for this Assignment. During Unit 7 we will discuss how to properly cite in APA style. You are encouraged to challenge yourself and complete APA style reference page citations for your sources to the best of your ability. Please review information and examples at the KU Writing Center.

Please note, APA formatting will be evaluated. APA formatting consists of an appropriately formatted title page, 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced paragraphs, and one-inch margins. Here is a video example of how to format your title page.

Your Unit 4 Assignment should meet the following guidelines:

• It must be at least two full paragraphs
• It must include one source from the KU Library Databases
• It must include one open web source.
• It must avoid unreliable sources or sources inappropriate for an academic essay, including but not limited to Wikipedia.
• It must follow APA format requirements, including an appropriately formatted title page, 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced paragraphs, and one-inch margins.
