Paleobiology is a growing or comparatively new discipline that combines the methods and findings of the natural science biology with the methods and findings of the earth science paleontology. It is sometimes referred to as "geobiology."
Paleobiological research uses biological field research of fossils millions of years old or current biota to answer questions about the molecular evolution or the evolutionary history of life. In this scientific quest microfossils, macrofossils or trace fossils are typically analyzed. An investigator in this field is called as a paleobiologist.
