The 2 chief players in the PC CPU market are Motorola and Intel. Intel has enjoyed incredible success with its processors since the early 1980s. Most PCs are controlled by Intel processors. The main exception to this rule is the Macintosh. All Macs use chips made by the Motorola. In addition, there are various firms, such as Cyrix and AMD that make processors which mimic the functionality of Intel's chips. There are also many other chip manufacturers for workstation PC's.
