Discussion: Access to Medical Record
Assume the role of the manager in a medical records department in a small community hospital. One of the top physicians within the hospital is consistently delinquent with documentation and chart completion. Every week reminders are sent to his email as well as placed upon his desk, and the next step in the process is to restrict his access to the medical record until charts are completed, which means that new patients cannot be taken on or treated. It will require him to come to the medical records department at least twice a week to work on the charts until completion. Only then will the restrictions be lifted.
a) Draft an email to the physician that will outline the process and lay out the expectations.
b) Provide rationale from external sources as to why he must be placed on restricted access.
c) Clearly outline the expectations for him to meet in order to regain his status as operational within the system.
