Controversial Hollywood Group Paper
Political Paranoia Through the Ages
Our Film festival is about American political paranoia in the past 60 years. We have chosen four films from four different decades to explore how this representation of this fear has evolved.
Fear of Communism-
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
The first film is Invasion of the Body Snatchers, which represents a fear of Communism. The enemy, pods that replace humans with human-like substitutes without emotion, is a sophisticated metaphor for what America perceived the threat of Communism to be.
Fear of Armageddon/End of Days
War Games
War Games explores the same enemy as IOTBS, but updated with new technology and thus a new type of fear, one in which computers and artificial intelligence might contribute to a human global catastrophe.
