Organizing (or organizational) effects of sex hormones: When sex hormones, often prenatally, influence the development, structure, and organization of the nervous system. Activating (or activational) effects of sex hormones: When sex hormones, usually after birth, activate behavioral patterns or tendencies that were laid down earlier (sometimes prenatally) in the development of the nervous system.
