Introduction

You are to select an organisation. The organisation you select should be from ONE of the following:

1. The organisation for which you work,

2. An organisation that you know well,

3. An organisation from which you can obtain high quality data (e.g. from websites, company documents, the library etc.).

Your Task - INDIVIDUAL WRITTEN REPORT

You should prepare a report answering all of the following questions:

1. Assess the practices used by the organisation selected to reward and motivate the employees. You are expected to show a deep understanding of extrinsic and intrinsic rewards and various theories of motivation (e.g. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Theory, Herzberg's Two Factor Theory, Alderfer's ERG Theory, Expectancy Theory and Equity Theory). Based on your assessment, provide recommendations and justify your recommendations by relevant theories. (2500 words, 10% more/less)

2. Critically evaluate two Human Resource Management (HRM) functions of the organisation selected. Consider highlighting the differences between the traditional practice of Personnel Management (PM) and modern practices of HRM. (1500 words, 10 % more/less)

Additionally

- You should provide material supported by appropriate citations, references [Refer to Coventry Harvard Referencing guide on Moodle] and appendices.

- A minimum of five references are expected at this level of study.

- You should provide a word count at the end of each task.

- The report should contain a title, table of contents, introduction (goal and objectives of report, main sources used, structure, etc.), body, conclusion, list of references, and appendices if necessary.

- Adequate referencing (use CU Harvard style of referencing) should be done in the report.

- The computer generated report should be in 12, Times New Roman and black and white. Coloured graphs and charts are allowed.

1. Critically discuss the relationship of HRM to the traditional practice of personnel management and industrial relations.

3. Analyse and evaluate HR practice in contemporary work situations, coming to critically argued conclusions and recommendations.
