Assignment Task:
Prompt
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to our 5th and final Section Discussion Board! Since this will coincide with the Final Paper and Content Analysis, I don't want to overlap too much, so this will be more of a reflective discussion.
Please answer only 1 of the following 2 questions
1) In the Week I discussion I asked you "do you get more of a sense of optimism or criticism regarding science and technology?" after going through that week's course materials.
Now that we are at the end of the course, I want to revisit this question. After having gone through 5 weeks of course readings and lectures, have you changed your mind on this question, has your opinion stayed the same, or are you even more firm in your answer? Citing at least 2 examples, explain why you feel the way you do about the role of science and technology in modern human history.
2) One of the major themes of this course has been "blind spots" in the Enlightenment. "Blind spots" here refer to Enlightenment philosophers' leaving out of certain groups of people in their discussions about "universal" principles of human reason, progress, sovereignty, individual rights, social contract, and the overall escape from "nonage."
Let's look back on this theme and think about the relevance of these "blind spots."
In your opinion, which blind spots of the Enlightenment, if any, are still most relevant today? Be sure to give specific examples and explain why you feel the way you do!
In order to get full credit, make sure that your posts are detailed and directly respond to the prompt. Be sure to give examples from the relevant readings and course materials to support your positions/arguments, and cite them! In responding to your peers, be sure to explain why you agree or disagree with them by sticking to the course material as you elaborate.
