The concept of the Trinity, one of the most important teaching of the Christians church, is a doctrine of a God whose life is an inclusive life of sharing. Tertullian's classic formula "one substance and three persons" introduced the Greek word oikonomia into theological discourse. This one God exists according to an inner order, the sharing of substantia (substance). Substantia, the legal terminology used by Tertullian, also meant "property". Hence, the Trinity can be understood as three persons, equal in power, sharing one substantia, one property (Gonzalez 1990b, 111-15). This "economic" doctrine of the Trinity models a social order that avoids the socioeconomic consequences of exclusiveness.
