Observe a couple who has been married or dating for a while (more than one year). Observe them as slyly as you can... so that they are unaware you are watching. What are they doing? What is their conversation like? What are their nonverbal behavior like? What kind of love do you seem them exhibiting?
After about an hour's worth of observation (you can do this over several days, if necessary), interview the couple (preferred) or one member of the couple. Ask them about their relationship. Tell them what your observations were. Ask them what makes their relationship successful? Discuss what communication strategies they use that help. How do they resolve conflict? How do they show love? How do they like to be shown love? Perhaps it's not a healthy relationship, talk about those facets of the relationship as well, if you are comfortable. Ask them these and other questions to understand how communication works in their relationship.
Then write three full pages about this experience. What did you find? Talk both about your observation and the interview. Then talk about what it all means for communication and relationships. Be sure to look at this big picture. Write three full pages on this and submit May 3rd.
