NURSING RESPONSIBILITIES WHILE ADMINISTERING IMMUNIZATION
- Use one sterile syringe and needle for each injection.
- Use only the diluent supplied along with measles and BCG vaccine.
- Screen children to see that they are in age groups recommended for vaccination and they are not seriously ill.
- Start immunization with polio vaccine, then administer other vaccines.
- Make entries in the immunization card which is handed over to the guardian of the child.
- Observe strict aseptic precaution while administering vaccine.
- In immunization register enter-name, OPD No., age, sex, type of vaccine and number of dose.
- Educate parents/guardians regarding the following aspects:
Date of next visit;
Reactions after immunization; and
Dangers of dropping out.
