Assignment task:

Number Sense and Operation File and Presentation - composed of 3 parts; (Books, Songs, and Presentation). 

Directions:

Math games support children's mathematical habits of mind and provide key school readiness skills, such as problem-solving, puzzling, and perseverance. Playing math games with Children offers a fun way to learn number sense and operations. In this assignment songs, fingerplays, word games, and poems can support the development of positive self-concept/self-esteem, foster respect for areas of diversity, promote all developmental domains.  This is a valuable resource that enhances teaching and learning in a quality education program. This will serve as your Math resource file to use as you prepare a lesson plans in Pre-school, Kindergarten, and primary grades.

A. Books

Identify 12 age-appropriate (4-pre-K, 4-kindergarten, 4-2nd grade) books to support the concepts of, number sense, counting, and constructing sets. Consider the development of children's positive self-concept/self-esteem and help children deal with life's challenges.

Cite each book in APA format

Write 1 short summary paragraph for each book.

The file must include appropriate books for each of the following categories:

  • number sense
  • written (symbol), spoken.
  • ordinal Numbers, nominal numbers, cardinal numbers
  • counting
  • constructing sets no larger than 10
  • children with disabilities or special needs
  • cultural or linguistic diversity

B. Songs, Fingerplays, Word Games and Poems

Select and compile a resource file of songs, fingerplays, word games, and poems to promote number sense and operations awareness.

The resource file must include the following:

  • 3 songs
  • 3 fingerplays
  • 3 word games
  • 3 poems

Provide the title, words, actions (for fingerplays), and directions for the (word games).

One of the songs, poems, fingerplays, and word games must be in a language other than English that reflects the cultures and languages of children and families in your community.

Identify the name of the book, author (when possible), or website where these resources were found.

C. Presentation:

You will record a video of yourself (visual instructions or text-based instructions) performing one song and a fingerplay or poem. Children do not have to be recorded. You must perform all the actions of the song and sing it yourself, actions to a pre-recorded video will not be accepted. During your presentation give examples of how you would promote positive outcomes in number sense and operation development and learning of children, by using songs, fingerplays, or poems.
