The No-Drama Rule of Management
I had to use this article , its me to a "T" since I can't stand drama in the work place.
In this article the man is getting his hair cut and there is a problem with the other 2 hairstylist and a client on the phone. Avi is the owner of the hair salon. He maintained his composure and went over to the other barber to calm the situation. When emotions like this were displayed at a work environment with customers, it made them uncomfortable. He decided to negotiate the price instead of the barber to diffuse the issue quickly because people were looking to see what he would do about the argument. Loss of composure is a loss of professionalism. Then your employees will lose trust and confidence in you. When your in charge you should always be calm and in control even if your stomach is turning. Interesting thing here is, the architecture of big offices in New York reflects a management style by having open offices where no one can hide and even the Boss is visible. If you are in a situation and its difficult to maintain, just leave, take a walk, I always say I need to decompress.
