Network diagrams and bar charts have different parts to play within planning a project. Where each of such tools used is and what does this demonstrate?
The network diagram displays and analyses the dependencies among the tasks or deliverables onto a project and this is used to classify the streams of work which can be undertaken in parallel. The bar chart demonstrates all of the tasks placed against a timeline to demonstrate while they are to be completed. The network diagram does not demonstrate this contrast along with the timeline very well, while on the bar chart the dependencies among tasks is not essentially self-apparent. The network diagram has other utilisations, for example into analysing the potential result of slippages and risks onto the attainment of the project's deadlines.
