Practice interpretive criticism. Among other aspects, interpretive criticism involves an appreciation for style, motif, and compositional characteristics.
To prepare:
Study Floating Figure by Gaston Lachaise (https://nga.gov.au/international/catalogue/Detail.cfm?)
Think about the style, motif, the compositional characteristics of mass and density, and the materials used to create the sculpture.
Submit a formatted 1- to 2-page paper using APA style with at least two references
- Evaluate why you like the sculpture and how true that artist is to his subject matter.
- Explain what aspect of style and motif of the sculpture appealed to you.
- Explain what compositional characteristics (mass, density, materials, and/or subject matter) of the sculpture appeal to you the most.
