Your textbook discusses the recovered memory/false-memory debate. My master's thesis was on eyewitness memory. The public has been led to believe that when people experience something terrible, such as abuse, that the brain represses the event so that we don't have to remember it. Research by cognitive psychologists, however, suggests that repression occurs less frequently than what the public has been led to believe. So for this week's discussion board, I want you to argue for the false-memory perspective. Here is your topic:
Discuss at least two things your book mentions that support the false memory perspective. If you were more likely to support the recovered memory side before writing this post, has arguing for the false memory side changed how you think about this issue?
