Model Analysis
The study casts of the patient provide a wealth of information and insight into the treatment decisions and planning. For partially edentulous patients it is critical to make good full extension diagnostic impressions in stock tray with irreversible hydrocolloid. The casts poured should be based with a base former.
It is critical to record the interocclusal relationship. To record interocclusal relationship, the technique to be used depends on the extent of edentulous span and the nature of the remaining teeth. On articulation of casts if both horizontal and vertical stability is achieved, then hand articulation is possible. However, if there is a larger edentulous span especially in a distal extension situation or when the teeth are attrited, there is need for using an interocclusal record material like special silicones, modified waxes (aluwax) or in larger edentulous spans or edentulous patients, a need for record bases and occlusal rims. The antagonist casts should be related and transferred to ideally a semiadjustable articulator or better, after a face bow transfer of the maxillary cast. Atleast, a mean value articulator should be used to do the diagnostic mounting.
