Queen Victoria Market Precinct Renewal
Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne is going through a renewal process.
Now consider this plan by City of Melbourne as an Enterprise level initiative. Study the details very well from the above link and be aware that as part of renewal:
- The heritage sheds will be carefully dismantled, restored and returned to where they stand today.
- The much-loved Dairy Produce Hall and Meat and Fish Hall will remain just as they are, with only minor restoration and renovation works.
- The heritage-listed Elizabeth and Victoria Street terraces will be refurbished and the iconic food hall's facade will be restored.
- Key market infrastructure and parking will be moved below ground, making way for more of what you love best about the market. This will enable the creation of 1.5 hectares of new open space on the existing car park, to be known as Market Square.
- We'll ensure there is never a supermarket or large franchise on the market site.
- The intersection of Queen and Therry streets will be transformed into the ‘Market Cross,' a pedestrian friendly meeting place that can host markets, festivals as well as greener spaces for sitting, eating and relaxing.
- The market will be surrounded by great city streets and tree-lined spaces. There will be more room for pedestrians and cyclists and improved access to public transport as well as improved customer car parking.
- A realigned and improved Franklin Street will better connect the city to the east and west parts of the city during peak times. It will also provide an extension to the new Market Square during events and festivals.
- The market precinct will reduce its environmental footprint with a focus on maximising energy efficiency, recycling and waste management, water saving initiatives and climate resilience.
- The nearby Munro development will include community facilities, child care, affordable housing, market car parking and residential apartments.
- The market will continue to trade throughout the renewal, with all current traders guaranteed a spot.
As the link indicates, there are plenty of activities around Business and IT alignment, Data Management and Modelling that needs to take place for the successful delivery of the project.
Your report and your presentation should aim to convince City of Melbourne that they need to invest on Enterprise Architecture. Include examples and information that are specific to this context. The audience will be the CEO, the General Manager, and the Manager of IT Resources at City of Melbourne.
You may consider the following questions to design your report:
What is EA? Why EA is important? How EA is similar to city planning? What are the benefits of EA? What are the key challenges in EA? How could City of Melbourne utilize EA? Provide concrete examples.
