Methodology
The purpose of this research is to gather statistical information and data on how technological affects globalization, and how the trend of globalization is affecting the management style of business organizations. The questions setup for this particular research are mainly scaled based questions, as this will provide statistical data which can be collected easily, and hence this particular research adopts the quantitative research method.
Sample
The targeted sample size will be approximately 200, as it is essential for quantitative research methods to have a large sample size. Because there are many small to medium sized businesses in New Zealand, is it crucial for them to complete this survey, as it will give a wide range of information on how globalization is affecting different businesses in different industries. Businesses and individuals completing this survey will need to be scattered across different location, for example different cities in New Zealand, rather than just one city. This is to reduce biasness, because businesses located in cities such as Auckland are more likely to be affected by globalization as opposed to Invercargill.
Procedure
The research will take place by using a questionnaire that are handed out to individuals, they will be told the purpose of the research, whereby the will also be asked their age and their occupation, if they are an owner of a business they will be asked the industry that their business is setup in. Because most working individuals will be working during business hours, it is often difficult to hand them the survey; therefore not only are questionnaires handed out randomly on the streets, but they are also handed to office buildings directly.
The questionnaire will only contain ten questions, outlined in the previous section of this research projects, where scales from 1 - 5 will be offered, and allow the respondent to fill in. On the top of the questionnaire, it will also contain information that this survey will take approximately 5 minutes, this is a technique that it will not put the potential respondent off, before they even look at the questionnaire. The information obtained for the purpose of this research will also be kept anonymous, where the respondents do not have to provide their personal details, this act as a security and also it will increase the confidence of individuals more willing to put the most truthful answer. The questionnaire will be handed out to individuals during working hours, in particular lunch time, where they are likely to be less busy. Furthermore, the questionnaire will also be handed out to individuals during the weekends, where individuals in the labor force will be easier to access.
The response rate for the questionnaire was approximately 66%, where 200 questionnaires were handed out, however only 150 questionnaires was returned and completed. The response rate was significantly higher during the weekends, where it can be assumed that respondents are more relaxed and are more willing to participate in the questionnaire. The response rate was the lowest when the questionnaire was directly handed into the office, this can be assumed that employees were too busy to participate in the questionnaire.
Instrument description
The hypothesis for this research is that globalization is affecting the management and communication style within business organizations. Hence the focus on of the questionnaire resolves around the knowledge that people have with globalization and their opinion on how strongly this is affecting organizational management styles.
The main item that is being measured is whether or not globalization has directly or indirectly affected the organizational management styles, and whether this impact is negative or positive. Another item that was being measured by this particular research is whether or not organizations are being affected even if they do not participate in the international market, i.e. they do not trade with any foreign companies.
Instrument development
The questions were developed from scratch by expanding on other academic journalists' ideas, with the assumption that globalization is popular amongst today's business world and that many business organizations whether they are involved in the international market or not their management style will also be affected. Although there has been previous research that has been conducted on a similar hypothesis; however there was no particular research that indicated how large the impact of globalization is on businesses, and whether it is in a positive or negative way. There has been a number of academic researches conducted either for or against globalization; therefore this research is based on expanding those original thoughts and gathering information and statistics on what percentage individuals believe globalization is a good thing, and how directly or indirectly do they think it has affected the organizational management style.
The questions are reliable as it directly targets the information that needs to be gathered for this particular research study; and the data gathered from the research fits into the literature assumption that has been made, and follows similar data from previous research studies.
The two variables that the survey concentrates on are globalization and organizational management, and how these two is affected by one another. the questionnaire in the survey is designed so that five questions is concentrated on how globalization is affecting individuals, and the other five questions focuses on how organizational management style has been changed. And the combination of these two variables will be analyzed and discussed. The questionnaire relied heavily on the opinions of business people, and what they thought of globalization, it also depended upon that they provide us with the true answer.
